Visually You

The art course that brings YOU into your abstract paintings.

Visually You is a five-part, virtual, live workshop series designed to cultivate your intuitive art making skills and guide you to meaningful compositions.

Why “Visually You”?

In this course, we’ll be diving into what it means to be our self. What resonates with us? What do we like? How are we feeling? How does it feel to be in this body, right now, in this place?

We’ll experiment with different techniques, inviting whimsy into our excavation and leaving stress outside workshop hours.

Through mindfulness, creative play, written journaling, mark making, painting, reflecting, and discussion, we’ll identify meaningful elements that enrich our work.

If you’re an experienced artist feeling like you’re in a lull, or an inexperienced artist not sure how to connect with your own style, Visually You will help you develop your own unique visual vocabulary and provide you with techniques you can use repeatedly to continually update your aesthetic as you move through life.

Regular price: $249.99

With a light-hearted approach, we’ll use mindfulness, experimentation, and reflection to access insight resulting from our work and move forward with intention.

What’s included in Visually You?

What to expect during the live classes:

Each session will begin with an overview of the day’s class and a review of the necessary supplies.

We’ll then move into a brief moment of relaxation or mindfulness to help us drop into our creative time and become fully present.

Next, Sara will guide you through fun, low-stress mark-making and painting exercises to help you unearth meaningful “visual language” for yourself and your artwork.

We will work present-time, holding space for each other as we make our way through the exercises.

We’ll then follow up with low-stress written journaling, reflecting on what occurred on the page and during the process, with an invitation to share with the group.

Some classes will culminate with a small homework assignment to prep for the next class.

Each class will end with prompt for a page in your journal which can be shared on the private Visually You Forum for continued support and encouragement.

“Usually doing something new, especially for a non-practicing artist, can be so stressful. This course was anything but stressful. It was relaxing, calming, and soothing. I have this new found love of art that can be therapeutic in so many way.”

What is the schedule for this round of Visually You 2024?

The Wednesday 10:00 am (Eastern US time) Sessions*

or

The Wednesday 2:00 pm (Eastern US time) Sessions*

*The sessions are not interchangeable. You must choose one or the other so familiarity and safe spaces are supported within each group.

Meet, chat, go over supplies and how your dashboard operates, talk about prep homework, etc

In this class, we’ll work through low stress exercises, having fun, enjoying the process, and beginning to recognize marks and colors that show up naturally for us.

Using light-hearted and playful exercises, we’ll tune into the spaces we occupy and begin creating our own unique vocabulary of marks and colors.

Today’s exercises focus on our own personal preferences and emotional connections to marks and colors.

In this class, we’ll experiment to decipher what techniques, marks, tools, applications, and colors click with us and resonate with how we’re feeling in the moment.

You’ve done it! We’re taking off the training wheels. Our time together today is all about putting together what you’ve learned over the last 4 weeks. Entering into this creative session, you’ll be fully equipped to tap into your intuition and create a meaningful composition. We’ll hold space for each other while we work, with an invitation to share at the end.

12:00 PM Eastern US Time. Sara will give you the details during Visually you.

“My retreat and class experience with Sara was beyond phenomenal. She has opened a whole new world of creativity and art expression for me in abstract form. I have never connected heart, soul and creativity as much as I did in Sara’s class, and my artwork has become more authentic, open and playful as a result. This was a literal breath of fresh air that I needed!”

How do you know if this course is a good fit for you?

  • Visually You is a course for inexperienced artists who are looking to unearth their unique voice.
  • It’s a course for experienced artists who are in a slump, have hit a plateau, or are experiencing blocks.
  • It’s for anyone with an itch to add depth, meaning, and unique visual language to their work.
  • It’s for all levels of artists (and people who don’t consider themselves artists. . . yet!) who would like to establish a meaningful art journaling practice but feel they need guidance to get going.
  • It’s for art-curious, open-minded individuals who are ready for a creative adventure.
  • It’s for individuals who are searching for a way to build a habit of spending  time in mindfulness and creativity regularly.
  • It’s for you if you enjoy the process experimenting, playing, and discovering, perhaps creating a few “crappy” pages on your way to making good ones.

This course is NOT for you if:

  • You are looking for loads of technical instruction. This is not a course built on technique. It’s a course based on helping you access YOU and bringing what you find into your journal pages and artwork.
  • You are wanting to learn how to make art that specifically emulates Sara’s style. Nope. That’s not what Visually You is about. Sara wants to help you find you – not her!

  • You are uncomfortable with messy outcomes or are unwilling to make something “ugly” for the sake of learning and information gathering.
  • You aren’t willing to create for the sake of play and exploration.

“By attending Sara’s bootcamp I discovered so many things about myself artistically (and otherwise) that I may never have realized on my own.  I created impressive art nonstop for 30 days in my journal immediately after attending her lovely and inspiring “Visually You” bootcamp.”

FAQ’s:

Journaling is a great way for us to see our progress over time, both artistically and mentally. It literally creates a story between the covers, so that’s cool! And keeping our compositions in a book also lends itself to privacy and evokes much less anxiety over creating something “perfect” or presentable, so: YAY! Freedom to create without stress!

You will receive an itemized and hyper-linked list of supplies once you register, but everything is pretty low-key, and we’re guessing you have most of it on hand already. We’re talking a journal (Sara will recommend a specific one), watercolors, brushes, pens, pencils, some loose leaf paper, and some Bombay India ink.

Actual time live and online for this class is roughly 8 hours, 9 if you count the bonus INSPIRED studio session at the end. BUT – there are some homework assignments. A couple of them are as mandatory as they can get in a class you’re taking for fun. And, after each class there will be an “assignment” for a journal page that puts into practice what we learned for the day. Those are awesome to do and share in the Forum. So if you add those onto class time, you’re looking at about 15 hours total time over 6 weeks.

Sara will be there! And 14 other students will be either in person online during the live classes, or watching later on their own time.

Yes! Sessions will be recorded and posted within 24 hours of the class.

All content will be available until September 15, 2024. Visually You can be really personal and discussion can be intimate. Out of respect for all participants, we don’t want to leave the classes living on the internet forever. Six months is a nice, relaxed window of time during which you can catch up if life gets too busy or you want to re-watch classes after the course has ended.

Yes! If you want to give Visually You as a gift, just register yourself as the student, then send Sara an email, and we will work with you to change the registration over to your giftee.

Yes! When you register for this round of Visually You, you will also receive a complimentary bonus invite to the INSPIRED Studio Sesh on March 16, details to be provided during the course.

And, if you are loving the safe, creative “container” provided by belonging to a community, you can continue to take advantage! Sara will provide a coupon code to join the INSPIRED art journaling community at a 20% discount for the life of your membership!

Artist Sara Schroeder Explains the Magic of Visual Journaling

Beyond her work as an abstract artist, Sara Schroeder is inspiring up and coming artists as a creative guide and visual journaling mentor. Currently pursuing her Creativity Coach certification, the Miami mixed media artist is helping individuals embrace their creativity and discover the benefits of new artistic habits with art journaling consultation, prompts, and guidance. With her flexible and accessible online platform, Schroeder welcomes participants of all skill levels into an online creative community where they can experiment and overcome creative blocks through the practice of regular art journaling. Here, uninhibited, imaginative exploration is encouraged and reinforced with support, inspiration, and professional expertise.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re experienced in a particular medium or skill. Your journal is your private space where you are free to experiment, make messes, and create with untethered abandon.”

“In my journaling pages, I focus on what’s intriguing me at a particular point in time – the actual moment I’m sitting down to work on a spread. It’s very personal, the way we interpret materials, color, marks, composition, within our own context. The meanings we discover are not going to present the same way to everyone, but, in my journal, what other people think bears no weight. I’m able to create with freedom and to my heart’s content.”

Kind Words…

“Sara is not only a great artist, she is an amazing teacher. Each class carefully lays the foundation for art journaling and then builds from week to week. Sara is kind and motivates in a very positive way. She encouraged me  to use what I learned while tapping into my own creative voice. And, her group approach allowed each person to learn from peers as well.

I’d highly recommend her workshops for those looking to learn more about journaling.”

“I follow you on Instagram and love your artwork! It came at the perfect time for me as I’ve been dealing with the very sudden and unexpected loss of my only brother.  I was looking for a creative outlet and something that was different and new for me as a way of calming my mind.  This was just that! The three-week format was well-organized, thoughtful, and perfectly executed. Each week’s skills and lessons built upon one another and culminated in a final lesson that will keep each of us growing and evolving as journaling artists! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and love of art with us, I can’t wait to continue this journey and hope to take more workshops with you!”

“Usually doing something new, especially art for a non-practicing artist, can be so stressful. This course was anything but stressful. It was relaxing, calming, and soothing. I have this new found love of art that has been therapeutic in so many ways. I love that I am learning to hone my intuition while also developing art skills. As I tried art on my own prior to class, I was just kinda figuring it out, but that was stressful because I needed more structure to work within. Sara provided exactly that. She gave me enough of a technical foundation to then feel free to explore and express myself creatively. 10/10 would recommend and will be trying again!”
I”‘m finishing up the class and wanted to say it was AWESOME! Seriously one the best workshops I have ever taken. Im so inspired and really enjoyed the mark making and learning from you! I plan to jump in on your monthly inspired.”
